Jewellery care
Most of our jewellery is gold-plated 925 silver: solid silver with a thin layer of gold on its surface. Treat that layer kindly and it keeps its colour for a long time.
Put your jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray, body lotion and make-up. They wear the plating and dull pearls.
Take it off first: before the shower, the sea or the pool, the sauna, sport, gardening and housework. Chlorine, salt water and household cleaners are hard on gold and silver alike.
After wearing, wipe each piece with a soft, dry cloth to remove the oils from your skin. Store it on its own, in a pouch or a lined box, so that chains do not tangle and pieces do not scratch one another.
Never use abrasive cloths, toothpaste or silver dips on gold-plated pieces: they take the gold off. A silver polishing cloth is for plain silver only.
Plain 925 silver darkens slowly in air. A silver cloth brings back the shine, and a closed pouch slows the tarnish down.
Pearls and mother-of-pearl are soft. Keep them away from perfume and water, wipe them after wearing and never put them in an ultrasonic cleaner.
14k white gold is the hardest-wearing metal we use. Wash it now and then in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse and pat dry.
Plating wears first where a piece rubs: inside a ring, around a clasp. When the silver starts to show, bring or send the piece back to us. [PLACEHOLDER: re-plating and repair service, prices and turnaround, to be set by the owner.]
