Gefyri is the Greek for bridge, and these earrings borrow the arched shape of the old stone bridges of Epirus. A small oval link sits on the lobe and a long oval link hangs from it, 45 mm from top to bottom. Both are covered in a fine engraved texture, so they glint rather than shine. In 925 sterling silver, as in our photograph, they are clean and cool; gold-plated, they warm up. Wear them with the Gefyri chain, or on their own with your hair pulled back.
925 silver is 92.5% pure silver, alloyed with other metals for strength. Gold-plated means a thin layer of gold covers its surface, giving the warm yellow colour for a fraction of the price of solid gold. Because the layer is thin, it wears with time and friction, fastest where a piece rubs: the inside of a ring, a clasp, the back of an earring. Perfume, sweat, chlorine and salt water wear it faster. When the silver starts to show, the piece can be plated again. [PLACEHOLDER: owner to state the thickness and caratage of the gold layer, and whether the shop re-plates, and at what cost.]
925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver; the rest is other metals, which make it hard enough to wear. It has the bright, cool white of silver all the way through, so there is no layer to wear away. Over time it darkens in air and on contact with some foods, rubber and cosmetics; this is tarnish, a surface film that a silver polishing cloth removes. Wear it often and keep it in a closed pouch, and it stays bright. [PLACEHOLDER: owner to confirm whether silver pieces are left natural or rhodium-plated.]
The engraved texture holds on to dust and, in silver, to tarnish: brush it gently with a soft, dry toothbrush and, on silver, finish with a silver cloth.
You have 14 days from receipt to withdraw, no reason needed, and 14 days from telling us to send the piece back. Engraved pieces and those made to your specifications are the exception. [PLACEHOLDER: to be reviewed by a lawyer.]
