Finish: Gold-plated 925 silver
An oval of mother-of-pearl, set in a fine rim, rises over a fan of rays made of tiny beads of metal, like the sun coming up behind a ridge. Each charm hangs from a 13 mm hinged huggie and moves as you do, so the shell shifts from white to pale pink and blue in the light. Avgi means dawn in Greek. These are the most dressed-up of our huggies, at home at a wedding and just as easy with a jumper.
925 silver is 92.5% pure silver, alloyed with other metals for strength. Gold-plated means a thin layer of gold covers its surface, giving the warm yellow colour for a fraction of the price of solid gold. Because the layer is thin, it wears with time and friction, fastest where a piece rubs: the inside of a ring, a clasp, the back of an earring. Perfume, sweat, chlorine and salt water wear it faster. When the silver starts to show, the piece can be plated again. [PLACEHOLDER: owner to state the thickness and caratage of the gold layer, and whether the shop re-plates, and at what cost.]
The iridescent inner layer of a shell, the same material pearls are made of, cut and polished into a flat inlay. Each piece has its own play of light. It is softer than metal, so keep it away from water, perfume and knocks.
Mother-of-pearl is soft and dislikes water and perfume: put these on last, take them off before washing and wipe the shell with a dry cloth.
You have 14 days from receipt to withdraw, no reason needed, and 14 days from telling us to send the piece back. Engraved pieces and those made to your specifications are the exception. [PLACEHOLDER: to be reviewed by a lawyer.]
