Lithostroto is a stone-paved road, and a tennis bracelet is built the same way: one stone laid against the next, all the way round. Fifty-four clear cubic zirconia stones of 3 mm, each in its own four-claw setting, are linked so that the bracelet moves like fabric on the wrist. It closes with a box clasp and a safety catch, so it stays put. In gold-plated 925 silver, as in our photograph, or in plain silver, it is the bracelet that turns jeans into evening wear.
925 silver is 92.5% pure silver, alloyed with other metals for strength. Gold-plated means a thin layer of gold covers its surface, giving the warm yellow colour for a fraction of the price of solid gold. Because the layer is thin, it wears with time and friction, fastest where a piece rubs: the inside of a ring, a clasp, the back of an earring. Perfume, sweat, chlorine and salt water wear it faster. When the silver starts to show, the piece can be plated again. [PLACEHOLDER: owner to state the thickness and caratage of the gold layer, and whether the shop re-plates, and at what cost.]
925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver; the rest is other metals, which make it hard enough to wear. It has the bright, cool white of silver all the way through, so there is no layer to wear away. Over time it darkens in air and on contact with some foods, rubber and cosmetics; this is tarnish, a surface film that a silver polishing cloth removes. Wear it often and keep it in a closed pouch, and it stays bright. [PLACEHOLDER: owner to confirm whether silver pieces are left natural or rhodium-plated.]
Cubic zirconia, sold in Greece as «ζιργκόν», is a crystal made in a laboratory and cut with many facets so that it throws back the light. It gives real sparkle at an everyday price. It is hard-wearing but can be scratched by harder materials, so store pieces apart.
Close the safety catch every time and check the claws now and then: a stone that moves is easy to secure before it is lost.
You have 14 days from receipt to withdraw, no reason needed, and 14 days from telling us to send the piece back. Engraved pieces and those made to your specifications are the exception. [PLACEHOLDER: to be reviewed by a lawyer.]
