Talismans

An eye, a heart, the sun, a name: small signs to keep close.

In Greece a small blue eye is pinned to a baby’s clothes or hung on a chain to keep bad luck away, and a piece of jewellery is a familiar gift at a baptism, on a name day or at the turn of the year. This line gathers the little symbols people give one another: the evil eye, a heart, a sunburst, a knot, a bar engraved with a name or a date. Light, everyday pieces, chosen as gifts and kept for years.

  • Three pairs of small huggie earrings with charms hang from a fine gold chain in front of dark wooden slats: gold sunburst fans, puffed silver hearts, and an oval of mother-of-pearl above a fan of beaded gold rays.
  • Close-up of an ear wearing a gold huggie hoop set along the front with tiny clear stones, with a small knot of twisted gold wire and a round clear stone hanging below; a hand with pale pink nails touches the hair in soft sunlight.
